By this definition, ESPN’s “Chink in the Armor” headline was offensive. Wordplay is essential to headline writing. It is a forum for wit, puns and double meanings. The intentions may have been innocent, but it was reasonable for the reader to assume, in that context, the “Chink” in the idiom was a reference to Jeremy Lin.

Connecticut Mayor Under Fire Over Taco Comment

The mayor of a Connecticut town facing police discrimination charges is in hot water after he told a local TV station that the way he’d help the Latino community by going home and having a “taco.” East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo initially defended his response Tuesday to a reporter's question and said it was being unfairly twisted. He later apologized, saying he'd had a long day of interviews after the FBI arrested four of his town's police officers on charges of depriving Latinos of their constitutional rights.

Allen Iverson's bank account has been commandeered by a Georgia judge ... who's garnishing the former NBA star's earnings so A.I. can repay a 6-figure debt to his flashy GA jeweler. According to court papers obtained by TMZ ... Iverson was sued back in 2010 for allegedly stiffing Aydin & Company Jewelers on a $375,000 bill. The records show ... A.I. never responded to the lawsuit ... so a default judgement was issued in favor of the jewelry store ... allowing A&C to collect $859,896.46 for the bling, court costs, interest and attorneys fees.

Haley Barbour is now a former governor of Mississippi, but he did not leave without controversy.In his final days in office, Gov. Barbour either fully pardoned or lightened the sentences of 290 Mississippians' who have been serving time or have criminal records. Some of them are familiar faces.Gov. Barbour gave conditional clemency to Karen Irby.She is the Jackson socialite who pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter in a 2009 crash that killed two young doctors.

KOBE BRYANT'S WIFE FILES FOR DIVORCE He Cheated Too Much

After 10 years of marriage that included a rape charge against her husband being dropped, Vanessa Bryant has filed for divorce from Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. Vanessa Bryant, 29, filed Friday in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana, Calif., citing "irreconciliable differences." She is being represented by celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who also is representing Maria Shriver in her divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
